Horror Hotel: Festival and Convention 2012

The Trio and I had a little adventure last weekend.   I have to admit that I really didn’t know what to expect when I wandered into the Horror Hotel on Saturday, May 19.  I was pleasantly surprised by the little gems that I discovered inside.  The Horror Hotel is an offshoot of the local filmmaker group The Indie Gathering.  The focus of this convention is to showcase local films, filmmakers and talent.  The convention also offers ample opportunities to network.  Different seminars on film making, haunted rooms and a film festival rounded out the entertainment available to guests.

When we first entered the Vendor room, we ran into a fun group of guys from Portage County.  They call themselves “The Slow Mutants”.  TSM is responsible for the movie “Mantua”.  “Mantua 2”  is coming soon and I will make sure to keep you posted on it.   Go to their website to watch portions of the movie and listen to some of their music too.  They were kind enough to give me a copy of  “Mantua” which I will be reviewing soon and they also posed for a picture with the Trio.

Next we ran into Shawn Michelle.  Shawn is bringing the webisodes “Zombiemom” to Youtube soon.  “Zombiemom is an action packed story about one family’s comedic struggle to live a normal life after some of them are infected by a Zombie virus. ”  She has been kind enough to allow the Trio the chance to blog from the set of “ZombieMom” in June.  Please support this project by “Liking” their Facebook page and check out what they’ve been working on at their YouTube channel “Ilovezombiemom”

Singer/songwriter/actress Tiffany Apan was there.  Tiffany is an accomplished performer with several horror films under her belt.  She is currently filming “Driving Nowhere” and has several others coming.  Check out her bio and other info at her website Tell her the Trio sent you!!

I sat in on a seminar on acting in horror movies with Travis Bowen, Kristina Michelle and others.   I spoke to Travis afterwards.  Travis is the co-owner/CEO of Eerie Frequency Entertainment.  The company responsible for “The Girl” has another film, “Night of the Cannibals” coming Summer 2012.  Visit their Facebook page and show them some Trio “Love” by clicking “Like”.   I have a copy of “The Girl” and I will be giving a review soon.

Sierra Holmes of VH1’s “Scream Queens” was at the Horror Hotel with Julian Christopher Kalis talking about the upcoming “Night of the Cannibals”.  Read more about Sierra and say “Hi” at her website

I managed to pick up a couple goodies from movie reviewer Tim Gross.  Tim runs the website Visit the website or like the Facebook page and tell em the Trio sent you.

It was a great day at the Horror Hotel. I made a lot of new friends and I got a lot of information to share with you guys. Lots of things coming up thanks to the generosity of some of the people that I just introduced to you. I am already looking forward to the next one.

Best Horror Movie Quotes

“The mortician said that Death has a design. Right? Now, what if you, me, Tod, Carter, Terry, Billy, Missus Lewton messed up that design. For whatever reason, I, I saw Death’s plan. We cheated him. But what if it was our time? What if we were not meant to get off that plane? What if it still is our time? If it is, then it’s not finished, and we will die – now, not later – unless, unless we find the patterns and cheat It again.” — Alex (Devon Sawa)

Happy Birthday to Naomi Campbell born on May 22, 1970.  You ask what Naomi Campbell has to do with Horror????  Well, I don’t know about you but I’m scared of her!!  Happy Birthday Naomi!

Coming Soon!!

“Chernobyl Diaries” is coming May 25th, 2012.  The film follows a group of six young tourists who, looking to go off the beaten path, hire an “extreme tour” guide. Ignoring warnings, he takes them into the city of Pripyat, the former home to the workers of the Chernobyl nuclear reactor, but a deserted town since the disaster 26 years ago. After a brief exploration of the abandoned city, however, the group soon finds themselves stranded, only to discover that they are being hunted by strange beings that now live in the city.  I have seen the full length trailer at the theater a couple of times now.  It looks pretty interesting.  I love the premise.  The movie is based on the story “The diary of Lawson Oxford” written by Oren Peli.  Oren Peli is the creator of “Paranormal Activity” so expectations are high.  Let’s keep our fingers crossed that “Chernobyl Diaries” lives up to the hype!!  Check it out.
